The two label webs are connected without the need to stop the labelling machine. The most suitable option for your business will depend upon the field of industry and the performance requirements.
In the LabelLink® splice head, the adhesive surface on the underside of the old label web is “massaged” pneumatically onto the start of the new label web roll, in the space created by removing the first label of the new roll.
Control systems and sensors ensure a precise positioning and adhesion between the end of the old roll and the start of the new. The accuracy of the procedure is aided by a slowing of the band speed.
In case of very high labelling speeds, a buffer reserve inside the splice device is used during the splicing process to enable a constant feed of labels through the machine.
With labelling machines that run at a low speed it is possible to perform the splice manually.
Irregularities such as tears to the web, imprecise label spacing or uneven bumps where the two webs meet are reliably avoided.
With a little care and skilled handling, the roll change can be performed without any need for the machine to be halted. It is not necessary to cut or trim the liner at any point.
Even when the splice procedure is performed manually, use of the LabelLink® adhesive tape offers advantages over a splice without LabelLink®: roll changes and web splices can be performed more quickly, unnecessary costs caused by a loss of labels are avoided, and the overall safety and reliability of the procedure is increased.
